Rod Carbonell holds 21 years of clinical, managerial and executive experience in a variety of inpatient and outpatient clinical settings, including hospitals, ambulatory surgery centers (ASCs) and physician clinics. Before joining Muve Health as president and chief executive officer in 2018, Rod served as vice president of the Hospital Corporation of America’s (HCA) Physician Services Group in their Central and West Texas division.

At HCA, Rod was responsible for leading clinic operations for a multi-specialty physician network with over 50 locations and 700,000 annual patient visits. He also helped negotiate and execute merger, acquisition and employment deals for more than 500 physicians.

Rod started his career as a registered nurse in hospital operating rooms (ORs), academic medical centers and ASCs. Following his inpatient OR experience, Rod helped lead a portfolio of single- and multi-specialty ASC operations. He also assisted in operationalizing one of the nation’s first ASCs to offer overnight stay capabilities beyond 23-hours for high acuity surgical procedures.

Rod has served on advisory committees for hospital clinical service lines and as a board member for many ASCs; additionally, Rod has offered consulting services for several business start-ups. Leading teams, strategies and innovations to improve patient experience, employee engagement and clinical quality outcomes continues to define Rod’s passions and focus.

Rod earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from Berea College in Berea, Kentucky and his Master’s degree in Healthcare Administration from Bellevue University in Bellevue, Nebraska.
